The beaches of Itacaré are among some of the most beautiful beaches in Bahia!
The town beckons travellers from around the globe to enjoy its 19 enchanting beaches. And while most urban beaches offer proper facilities, the wild ones are untouched and paradisiacal.
Itacaré beaches are very picturesque and boast opulent vegetation, warm water, soft sand, and excellent waves (the city has hosted many surf competitions). To complete the perfect scenario, on some of them, there are also streams of fresh water running unpretentiously to the sea.
I’ve been visiting Itacaré since I was a kid and, in this post, I want to share with you not only the best beaches in Itacaré but also the most beautiful ones.
Table of Contents
10 Best Beaches in Itacaré, Brazil
1 – Praia de Jeribucaçu
Located in a private area on the outskirts of the city, Jeribucaçu is one of the most extraordinary beaches in Bahia!
To get there isn’t easy. You need to head towards the exit of the city (BA001) and take an unnamed unpaved road to Fazenda Santo Antônio Jeribucaçu. You can leave your car at one of the parking lots and hike about 25 minutes through the forest trail to get to the beach. Some parts of the trail are very slippery and steep. Be careful.
Once you arrive at Jeribucaçu Beach you will see that all the effort was worth it! The stunning beach is encompassed by lush greenery, has soft sand, a small river running onto the sea and simple infrastructure.
A visit to this heavenly beach instantly relaxes your shoulders and slows your pace.
Jeribucaçu is one of the most beautiful beaches in Itacaré and I bet you will love it as much as I did.
2 – Itacarezinho
Located on Ilhéus – Itacaré (BA001) road, 15 km from the city centre, Itacarezinho is the ultimate example of the Brazilian tropical beaches you’ve been dreaming of.
This 3.5 km long beach has a stunning natural beauty and boasts endless coconut trees, powdery white sand, a freshwater stream cascading down from the hill onto the beach, a superb Restaurant and Lounge and good waves.
Itacarezinho, “Little Itacaré”, is the longest beach in the city and to get there you can either park your car on the road and walk down the hill for around 20min, or drive through private property (R$ 100 – US$ 20 per car).

3 – Praia da Engenhoca
Located approximately 12 km from the city centre, Engenhoca is one of the best beaches for surfing in Itacaré.
To get there you need to park your car along the BA001, there’s a sign on the road, and go on a 20-minute hike through the tropical rainforest. The trail is well-marked and suitable for all ages.
Once you arrive, you will see a small, sheltered beach in the middle of two hills covered with sumptuous vegetation; behind you, there’ll be the rainforest forest and stream water coming from the jungle and running onto the sea.
Even if you don’t surf it’s worth going to Engenhoca. The beach is gorgeous and very picturesque. You can cool down in the little river, relax and grab something to eat.
4 – Praia da Ribeira
Located on Caminho das Praias, a 30-minute walk from the city centre, Praia da Ribeira is one of the most beautiful beaches in Itacaré.
This incredible beach, enveloped by an opulent and dense Atlantic Forest, features a freshwater swimming pool, a small river, tree-top walks, ziplines and restaurants serving delicious food.
Praia da Ribeira has been my favourite beach in town since I was a kid. You can’t miss it!
5 – Havaizinho
Another wild beach that you should not miss is Havaizinho, one of Itacaré’s best beaches.
To get there you need to park your car along the BA001, there’s a sign on the road, take the same trail do Engenhoca and you will see a bifurcation with a sign to Havaizinho.
Havaizinho, “Little Hawaii”, is completely enclosed by lush vegetation and features a nice stretch of sand, green water, reefs, and some natural pools formed on the rocks at low tide. During your visit don’t miss the chance to try the fish baked in banana leaf which is served at the rustic seafront restaurants.
6 – Praia do Resende
Located about a 15-minute walk from the centre, Praia do Resende is the first of a sequence of four beaches on Caminho das Praias street.
This organised and soft sand beach surrounded by nature and dotted with coconut trees is one of the most scenic beaches in Itacaré. It’s very popular among locals and tourists alike.
During the high season, Praia do Resende gets very crowded, and with many beachgoers playing football, it can be a bit hard to find a place to relax and bask in the sun.

7 – Praia Da Camboinha
If you’re vacationing in Itacaré and all you want is to relax on a beautiful beach away from the crowds, Camboinha is the place to go.
Located between Itacarezinho and Havaizinho, Praia da Camboinha is a picture-perfect beach enveloped by lavish vegetation. It’s one of the most untouched and deserted beaches in Itacaré and has a very laid-back atmosphere.
To get there you need to follow a trail from Havaizinho or Itacarezinho (the former is much easier). This trail is part of the “Trilha das 4 Praias” (Four Beaches hike) which connects Itacarezinho, Camboinha, Havaizinho and Engenhoca.
The last time I went to Camboinha, there were only three people on the beach, a foreign woman sunbathing and a couple sleeping underneath a coconut tree.
8 – Praia da Tiririca
Situated just after Praia do Resende, Tiririca is the surfers’ point and has held many Brazilian and international surf competitions because of its strong and consistent waves.
Here you can find some restaurants with live music on the weekends, small kiosks and pousadas, if you prefer to stay on a quiet beach but not far from the centre. There’s also a surf school and board rentals in case you want to catch some waves and a skate bowl.
Praia da Tiririca is bordered by stone cliffs and has a typical surfing environment.

9 – Praia da Coroa
Located in the heart of the city in a former dock to transport cocoa, Praia da Coroa (Coroinha) is Itacaré’s most important beach. It features a promenade dotted with restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, important historic buildings, squares, and guesthouses.
It’s here where Rio de Contas meets the sea and important cultural events, including the New Year’s Eve and Carnival, take place.
Praia da Coroa is not a swimming beach. The “Orla”, as locals refer to it, it’s a great place to go for a walk, play sports, people watching, grab an açai bowl, have some drinks, and enjoy the nightlife.

10 – Praia da Concha
Another beach in the city centre, that is very popular among locals and tourists, especially during the sunset.
Praia da Concha is a family-friendly beach with excellent infrastructure. It’s perfect for kids and water sports due to its tranquil sea.
You can go swimming, or kayaking, hire a SUP, book a Hawaiian canoe tour, grab something to eat and drink in one of its many restaurants and or just rest and relax.
Extra Tips for Visiting Itacaré Beaches
- Be careful when hiking to the wild beaches. You’re going through a rainforest and might encounter some animals. I don’t want to put you off, but once I saw a snake while hiking to Praia da Engenhoca.
- Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, hats, towels and plenty of water.
- The sea can get rough in Itacaré because of the waves. If you are not a good swimmer, I recommend staying in the shallow parts.
- There isn’t cell phone coverage on the beaches outside of the city.
- Take some cash when heading to wild beaches because the credit card machines depend on the internet service.
- Remember to preserve the environment, and please don’t litter.
I hope this post will help you to plan your visit to these incredible beaches. Below, I created a map so you can have a better idea of the exact location of each of them.
