Saint Petersburg
In July of 2015, I visited Saint Petersburg for the first time. The city had never been on my list until I found out about its world-class museum, fine architecture and breathtaking palaces.
My favourite places in the city are: the Hermitage Museum, the Church of the Savior Blood, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral and Peterhoff (which actually is another city close by).
Packing to go to Saint Petersburg I knew that the summer there is not terribly hot and I would be able to wear shirts and blazers.
When I visited the Peter and Paul Fortress, located by the river, I preferred to wear shorts and a comfortable sneaker, because I would walk a lot, and also a shirt because of the breeze.

I love to play with colours and wear vivid pieces combined with neutral ones. A denim shirt is a classic and I like to pair mine with salmon shorts and blue sunglasses.

Peter and Paul Fortress was founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and has a beautiful cathedral with the tallest bell tower in the city (Peter and Paul Cathedral), an important museum (State Museum of Saint Petersburg History), a mausoleum (Grand Ducal) and walls.
After a visit to the fortress, I stopped to get some coffee before heading back to the hotel.
At night I went to see Don Giovanni at Mariinsky Theater, one of the oldest and most traditional theatres in Saint Petersburg.
The theatre is just marvellous and has a luxurious structure with a large auditorium, and a sumptuous foyer featuring gilded plasterwork, frescoes and chandeliers.
Sadly, nowadays almost no one dresses up for the opera, however, I selected a casual yet elegant and jovial look.

The light blue trousers go very well with anything you want to wear: t-shirts, polos and shirts, of any color. I combined mine with a white shirt and a grey summer blazer.

I loved Russia and especially Saint Petersburg. I was struck by its architecture, churches and museums.
If Russia has never been on your list, whether for political reasons or any other reason, you should think about it again. Russia is beautiful beyond imagination!
